Roys Peak Track

⏱ 5–6 hrs 📏 ~16 km return 🥾 Hard

Wānaka. Steep, exposed, no water source on the track. Closed for lambing 1 October – 10 November each year. The view from the top is the reason this track is famous — but the climb is relentless.

Pinnacles / Kauaeranga Kauri Trail

⏱ 6–8.5 hrs 📏 Various loops 🥾 Moderate–Hard

Coromandel Forest Park. 3 hours up and 3 back as a day hike, or 7–8.5 hours via the Webb Creek–Billygoat loop. A hut at the summit means you can also split it over two days.

Mueller Hut Route

⏱ 7–8 hrs return 📏 Steep alpine 🥾 Hard

Aoraki/Mt Cook. DOC's own guidance says 4–5 hours up, 3 hours down, and frames a single-day return as something only "very fit people" manage. Most people should book the hut.
